Stainless Steel 304 Bolts

Stainless steel 304 is a material also known as 18-8 due to its chemical makeup. The grade 304 stainless steel consists of various elements such as 18% chromium and 8% nickel (18-8). These bolts are also including the 302, 302HQ, 303 and 305 grades. Various features with defined chemical composition characterize these. Stainless steel 304 is the best material to produce a series of bolts. Every material varies from another grade due to its corrosion resistance abilities. Various elements present in the stainless steel 304 grade makes them resistant to a particular atmosphere and chemicals. These bolts are generally non-magnetic and show superior corrosion resistance. The material quality makes product hardenable by the cold-working process.

Physical and mechanical properties of SS 304 bolts

The bolts of stainless steel 304 show good density (8 g/cm3), melting point (1450 C), and elasticity (193 Gpa). Besides, the bolts are electrically resistant and conductive. At room temperature, these bolts show thermal expansion. Stainless Steel 304 bolts are tensile, proof stress and undergo a process of elongation. It is the austenitic stainless steel has good forming and weldability. Also, they show high corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.

Advantages of Stainless Steel 304 bolts

304 grade of Steel has high corrosion resistance. Hence, these bolts work smoothly in many acids and alkali solutions. The material undergoes a process of cold and hot forming and useful in a versatile atmosphere.

316 Stainless Steel Bolts

316 stainless steel is different from stainless steel grade 304. The difference lies with its composition, of 3% molybdenum. The presence of molybdenum increases corrosion resistance and gives several other properties to improve stainless-steel bolts’ functionality. The material grade 316 show improved resistance in pitting, workability in chloride solution also increases strength at high temperature.

Properties of Stainless Steel 316 bolts

The product shows outstanding mechanical properties that include tensile strength (580 Mpa), elongation (50%), elasticity (193 Gpa), Charpy Impact (105J), Izod Impact (129J). Besides mechanical properties, the stainless Steel 316 bolts show electrical resistivity and magnetic permeability.

Bottom line

The fundamental difference between 304 and 316 steel bolts is the presence of molybdenum in 316 stainless steel. More nickel is present in 316 stainless steel grades, while more chromium is present in 304 stainless steel grades. Stainless Steel 316 bolts are costly than bolts of 304 due to its features. Also, 316 stainless steel bolts are useful in the salt-containing area.
